Alza.cz turned its Chrášťany logistics centre near Prague into the largest robotic warehouse in the country — and packaging efficiency is a core part of that story.
Alza.cz processes hundreds of thousands of orders a day across one of the widest SKU portfolios on the market. To keep same-day promises, the retailer put more than a billion crowns into its Chrášťany logistics centre — the single largest investment in the company's history.
The heart of the upgrade is an AutoStore-style goods-to-person system with hundreds of robots moving stock bins on top of a dense storage grid, backed by conveyors, robotic palletising and a sorter able to handle thousands of parcels per hour. Order preparation time dropped dramatically and expedition became a matter of minutes instead of hours.
Automation of this scale exposes one thing very quickly: the packing station becomes the bottleneck, and every millimetre of unnecessary box volume is paid for again in void fill, in transport air and in picker time.
